Responsible minerals (RMI) and conflict minerals consulting in Brazil
Responsible minerals due diligence for companies in the tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold (3TG) supply chain in Brazil, with preparation for the RMAP or DAP assessment.
Who it is for
Smelters and refiners selling to electronics and automotive manufacturers, whose customers ask for a completed CMRT or for an RMAP assessment. Also the other companies in the supply chain, which answer their customers through the CMRT and may go through the DAP.
Igor Fernando handled responsible minerals due diligence in the industry before founding IFC Quali.
What is delivered
- Due diligence following the OECD Guidance
- Supplier policy and code of conduct
- Supply chain risk assessment
- Preparation for the RMAP assessment (smelters and refiners) or the DAP (other companies in the chain)
The OECD Guidance divides due diligence into five steps. The first is the company policy and the last is the annual public report. Each step is built with the documents the RMI assessor asks for and with the company’s own records.
Terms
- 3TG: tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold, the four conflict minerals under the US law and the EU regulation.
- CMRT: Conflict Minerals Reporting Template, the RMI form in which a company lists the smelters and refiners in its 3TG supply chain.
- EMRT: Extended Minerals Reporting Template, the RMI form for cobalt, mica and other minerals.
- RMAP: Responsible Minerals Assurance Process, the RMI assessment for smelters and refiners.
Frequent questions
Does my company need the RMAP?
The RMAP is for smelters and refiners. Other companies in the chain answer their customers through the CMRT and may go through the DAP.
Why do customers ask for the CMRT?
In the United States, section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Act requires listed companies to report the origin of 3TG. In the European Union, Regulation 2017/821 applies to importers. These companies pass the request on to their suppliers, using the CMRT.
Who carries out the RMAP assessment?
An assessment firm approved by the RMI. IFC Quali handles the preparation.
